With the Christmas holiday season upon us, I want to make a plea to you to support local businesses.  As tempting as it is to go online and purchase items, maybe the online experience for you can be research oriented, with a goal of making purchases from a local business owner. Local entrepreneurs really impact the local economy!

Local entrepreneurs are just not store owners. Attorneys, accountants, and local consulting firms are important to use, also. No offense out of towner's, but you need to peddle your services in your own neighborhoods. We like to buy local

Former Officemax Executive Gets Local Franchise Help

Office_2                       Abj_2

The Office                                       The Newspaper

Mike Whelan, a former Officemax executive, heard a seminar I gave on "Career Alternatives..Is Franchising For You?" a while back, and scheduled a face to face meeting in my Chagrin Blvd.office.
Mike, and his lovely wife, Mary Kay, followed our research process perfectly, and got the facts about the franchises I presented to them, based on their criteria. They narrowed their search to a children's' tutoring franchise, and Paula Schleis, a senior reporter at The Akron Beacon Journal just interviewed the Whalen's about their decision to go into business for themselves, and escape corporate America.

Is it time for you to do things a little differently in 2008?  My favorite quote is this one:

"Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes"

Ever think about getting involved in a "peer group?" Of other local small business owners?

Google. Who would have thought {a few years ago} that school age kids could go sit at a computer, and look up anything-from  homework answers, to clearance sale items on the Abercrombie & Fitch website.

Of course the adults can "Google" their own names, and find out where their presence is on the World Wide Web, or find a larger computer monitor on sale at thousands of different websites from around the world.

Google. From the original googol.

Another Way to Finance a Franchise

Money_2

Most folks I meet with to try to help learn about interesting opportunities in franchise ownership get stuck on the "financing" part of the equation.....

Here are the traditional ways to fund your new business startup {franchise or non-franchise}$$$$

1. Small Business Administration Loan.{SBA}
2. Commercial Bank Loan
3. Commercial Line of Credit
4. Home Equity Loan or Line of Credit
5.Personal Loan from Family/Friends

Those are some ways to obtain financing for your new business. Here is another:

AUDEO: The Entrepreneur Pension

Should I stop here? Ok...

What if there was a way to use a portion of your 401{k}or IRA to help you fund your new business? Basically, you are borrowing against yourself, and if structured right there is no tax penalty to deal with.

Guidant Financial is a company that specializes in setting up entrepreneurial enterprises with retirement funds. The steps:

1. They will form a corporation for you.
2. Then, the corporation {yours} sponsors a 401{k}plan.
3. They help you roll over some of your retirement funds to your corporation's plan
4. 401{k}invests in your corporation

The above is a simple and to the point version of what transpires. A couple of the folks I have helped get into businesses of their own have used a portion of their retirement funds to start businesses, and have used Guidant's superb services to do it, right.

This option may or may not be for you, but it is an option. You should look at options. Right?

The Franchise King Blog Updates

Bannerad_top
I have added 2 features that I hope will add value when you spend some time with me on this blog...

The first is a music feature I have added. Just scroll down to the bottom to the blue box, and click a song. I have about 40 different tunes, so feel free to jam while reading the articles I write. As I am an ex radio personality for some rock stations, this 48 year old may surprise you with his music tastes.
You can also just hit a button and it will play randomly all the way through the list. Keep it on all day, if you want! If you want to add it to your blog,or website, go to www.Projectplaylist.com
It is Free!

The second thing I have done is I created a new page for all of my national and local media interviews on the radio, TV, and  in print. There are articles I have written, and stories about some of the folks I have helped get into businesses of their own. This page is a great resource area for you to learn more about franchising, and to get to know me a little better, and how I may be able to help you, or someone you know who may be thinking about exploring franchise/small business ownership. The link is titled "This Blog's Media Buzz"

Pass it on,subscribe,whatever! Enjoy!

An interesting story came out yesterday from our friends in Columbus concerning the plight of Ohio cities.

The Columbus Dispatch tries to throw some positive spin in the stories they wrote. There are several of them posted online, and I will give you the link to the big one-concerning all of Ohio. Read Here

I trust George Nemeth of Brewed Fresh Daily fame will link to the 2 Cleveland stories sometime today.

Notice the writing style of the journalists in Columbus. They throw in some positive info, and look towards our State's {and cities} future. That is something not too familiar with our one paper town...
