Anita Campbell of Small Business Trends fame told me that "I am impressed with your dedication to do whatever it takes to grow your business." Into infinity and beyond....Some niblets for thought...
Here are my picks for the top franchise opportunities in 2008!
1. 4-Five This convenient store concept is designed for the franchise owner that wants lots of flexibility. The hours are from 4pm till 5pm. Of course the customers need to be pretty flexible with their shopping habits also. Total Investment of $250k includes all inventory, 2-30 second hot dog grilling machines and membership into the elite Skoal Chew Buyer's Consortium.
2. Tubway The developers of this newer concept hope to open 17,000 stores by 2012. This submarine sandwich franchise will feature customer weigh stations at each register, and built in fat gram counters at the exits. Potential franchisees must go through a grueling all you can eat buffet road trip that covers 20 states in a 1 week period, to be considered for franchise ownership.

These questions are self-assessment questions you should be asking yourself, before you contemplate business ownership. At least in franchising, if your back office/operational abilities are average at best, the software and office support are provided, most of the time. Is becoming a franchise owner guarantee one's safety? You think I am going to go on about risk vs. reward, right? Not this time.
Chris Wisbar the owner of Sparkling Image, a commercial restroom sanitization franchise sent me this picture, today. A little windy last night huh, Chris? This is a picture of one of his work vans, that almost didn't make it to work....

But I do know that "green" franchising is a movement that needs to be taken seriously. In case you missed it, here is the Solar Franchise story...
Not everybody is right for small business ownership. Not everybody is right for the franchise type of business ownership. That, is actually a good thing....
